Portable Toilet Hire in Brighton and Hove: Prices, Permits and Seafront Event Guide (2026)

TL;DR: Portable toilet hire in Brighton costs about £100 to £170 for a standard unit over an event weekend, £160 to £240 for an accessible unit and £250 to £380 for a luxury flushing unit (GigLoo 2026 price bands, check VAT on your quote). GigLoo is based in Wivelsfield, Mid Sussex, so Brighton and Hove is on our doorstep, not a long-distance drop. If your event is on council land you apply through the Brighton and Hove Outdoor Events Office, and if you are selling alcohol you need a Temporary Event Notice at least 10 clear working days ahead.

How much does portable toilet hire in Brighton cost?

A standard portaloo in Brighton costs £100 to £170 for a weekend and a luxury toilet unit costs £250 to £380, with accessible units at £160 to £240. These are the same bands we publish on our portaloo hire cost guide, and Brighton sits inside our normal Sussex service area.

Unit type 1 day Weekend (2 to 3 days) 1 week Best for in Brighton
Standard portable (chemical) £70 to £110 £100 to £170 £120 to £200 Building jobs, allotment and club days, informal gatherings
Accessible portable or pod £120 to £180 £160 to £240 £190 to £280 Any public event, family parties, wheelchair users
Luxury flushing unit or trailer £180 to £260 £250 to £380 £320 to £480 Weddings, garden parties, corporate days, seafront and Downs venues

Prices are indicative. Your exact quote depends on dates, access, unit numbers and whether the unit needs water and power. Larger trailers such as the 4+2 toilet trailer are quoted per event. For what moves a quote up or down, see our guide to luxury toilet trailer hire costs.

What is included in a GigLoo quote?

  • Delivery, positioning and levelling of the unit
  • Starter consumables: toilet roll, soap and hand towels or a dryer
  • Collection and waste removal at the end of hire
  • Servicing visits for multi-day or long-term hires, scheduled in the quote

Which toilet unit suits your Brighton or Hove event?

The right unit depends on guest numbers, how long people stay and what they expect. A garden party in Hove needs something different from a Downs-edge marquee wedding or a six-week build in Kemptown.

Event or job Typical numbers Our usual recommendation
Garden party or milestone birthday in Hove, Preston or Withdean 40 to 80 guests 2+1 toilet trailer
Marquee wedding on the Downs or in a Sussex barn 100 to 150 guests 3+2 toilet trailer plus an easy access toilet pod
Corporate day or product launch 150 to 300 guests 4+2 toilet trailer or two smaller trailers split across the site
Community fete, charity run or park event 500 to 2,000 visitors 10-bay and urinal trailer plus accessible units
Camping event, sports tournament or crew base Any Add a 4-bay shower pod or 6-bay shower trailer
Building site or renovation 1 to 20 workers Standard portable on weekly servicing

How many toilets do I need for a Brighton party or wedding?

Plan on one cubicle for every 25 to 30 guests at a seated event like a wedding, because everyone heads for the loos at once after the speeches. For drop-in events where people come and go, one cubicle per 40 to 50 people is usually enough. Add more if there is a free bar or the event runs past six hours, and include at least one accessible unit at any public event. Our event toilet ratio guide shows the maths.

What permits do you need for an event in Brighton and Hove?

You do not need a licence to hire a portable toilet. You may need permission for the event itself, and that depends on where it takes place and whether you are selling alcohol.

Events on council land: parks, seafront and open spaces

Brighton and Hove City Council says anywhere outside on public land can be considered a possible event site, and that includes parks and the seafront. Its Outdoor Events Office handles requests (phone 01273 293 001, fees enquiries to eventsinfo@brighton-hove.gov.uk). The process the council sets out is:

  1. Contact the events team to check your date and location are available
  2. Submit the event application form and a cover letter
  3. Include a full risk assessment
  4. Once approved, send your public liability insurance certificate for full consent
  5. Complete the council’s Sustainable Commitment form

Expect to pay a fee for use of the land. Put your toilet and shower positions and the delivery route on your site plan. It saves a round of questions and helps us confirm a trailer can reach the spot.

Temporary Event Notices (TENs)

If you plan to sell alcohol or provide regulated entertainment at an unlicensed venue you need a TEN. The key rules, from Brighton and Hove City Council and GOV.UK:

  • No more than 499 people on site at any time, including staff
  • The event can last up to 168 hours (7 days)
  • Give notice at least 10 clear working days before the event. Late TENs need at least 5 clear working days
  • The fee is £21
  • If the police or environmental health object to a standard TEN, a licensing hearing follows. A late TEN is rejected outright if either objects
  • A premises can have up to 15 TENs a year, totalling no more than 21 days

Staff, bar teams and toilet attendants all count towards the 499. If you are close to the limit, plan your toilet numbers for the full headcount.

Brighton site challenges we plan for

Most hire pages list suburbs. Here is what actually affects a delivery in Brighton and Hove.

Seafront, shingle and wind

The beach is shingle and the Promenade is a shared public route, so a unit needs a firm, level pitch away from the walkway. Coastal wind matters too. Tell us if your pitch is exposed so we can position and secure units properly.

Hills, narrow streets and parking restrictions

Much of central Brighton and Hove is Regency terraces, steep roads and controlled parking. A 2+1 or 3+2 trailer gets into most places, but send us the postcode, a photo of the approach and the width of any gates. If you need road space or parking bays, talk to the council early so delivery and collection can be planned.

Downs and farm venues

Chalk grassland and farm tracks around Ditchling, Hassocks and Steyning can turn soft after rain. We may recommend trackway or a firmer pitch near the gate. The 10-bay and 14-bay units need a level, firm base and proper access.

Water and power for luxury units

Luxury trailers flush and have running water and lighting, so they need a water feed or onboard tank and a 16 amp supply or small generator. Tell us what the venue has and we will plan around it.

Busy Brighton weekends

Brighton fills up for large annual events, school holidays and good-weather weekends. If your date clashes with a major city event, book early and allow extra time for delivery and collection.

How far ahead should you book toilet hire in Brighton?

  • May to September weekends: 3 to 6 weeks ahead, longer for Saturday weddings
  • Large events (500+ people): 3 months or more, so units, servicing and attendants can be planned alongside council consent
  • Building sites and long-term hire: usually 1 to 2 weeks, see our construction site toilet hire guide
  • Autumn and winter: more availability, but mention heating and lighting needs

Do you need shower hire too?

If people are staying overnight, usually yes. Camping weddings, sports tournaments, youth camps, film crews and festival-style events need showers as well as loos. Our portable shower hire range sits alongside your toilets on one delivery, and our portable shower hire costs guide covers prices and sizing.

Why hire from GigLoo in Brighton?

  • We build our own units. GigLoo designs and manufactures its toilet and shower trailers in Sussex, so they are maintained by the people who built them.
  • Local, not long-distance. We are a short drive from Brighton, which keeps delivery flexible.
  • Published prices. Most firms only quote on request. We publish our bands so you can budget before you call.
  • One supplier for loos and showers. One booking, one delivery, one contact.
  • Greener options. See our sustainability page for how we cut water and chemical use.

Do you deliver portable toilets in Brighton and Hove?

Yes. GigLoo is based in Mid Sussex and delivers across Brighton, Hove, Shoreham, Lewes, Newhaven, Peacehaven and the surrounding Downs villages.

Do I need permission to put a portable toilet on my land?

No licence is needed to hire a portable toilet for private land. You may need a Temporary Event Notice if you are selling alcohol, and events on council land need consent from the Brighton and Hove Outdoor Events Office.

How far in advance should I book toilet hire for a Brighton wedding?

Book 3 to 6 weeks ahead for summer weekends, and earlier for Saturday weddings or dates that clash with big city events.

Do luxury toilet trailers need water and electricity?

Yes. They need a water supply or onboard tank and a power source, either a mains hook-up or a generator. Standard portables need neither.

Can I hire a portable toilet for the beach or seafront?

Only with permission. The seafront is public land, so speak to the council Outdoor Events Office before booking. Once you have consent we can plan a firm, level pitch and a safe delivery route.
